Wraparound childcare: Before and after school care

The UK Government is investing in before and after school childcare for primary school age children, referred to as wraparound childcare. They expect parents who need this service to have access by September 2026.

We are working with schools and other childcare providers across the Wokingham Borough.

Childcare for under 5s

  • It's not compulsory for a child under 5 to attend nursery or preschool.
  • You will need to apply directly to the pre-school or nursery you want your child to go to.
  • Most pre-schools and nurseries will have open days or will let you visit before you apply.

Early years foundation stage (EYFS) statutory framework

This sets the standards that all providers must meet to ensure children learn and develop, and are kept healthy and safe.

The teaching and learning children receive helps make sure they are ready for school and gives them the foundation to progress through school and life.
