Weeks 6 to 16: starting the needs assessment

Once the EHC needs assessment process starts, we will gather more advice and information from people who work with your child or young person.

We may also arrange specialist assessments such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy or social care.

We will involve you and your child or young person in this process.

An EHC needs assessment does not always lead to an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Sometimes, the information we gather during the needs assessment can help us decide whether your child or young person’s needs can be met by their nursery, school or college through special educational needs support.
