Qualify for direct payments as a carer

Carer's assessment

To receive a carers direct payment you will need to have a carer's assessment and the person you care for needs to be known by Adult Social Care. The assessment gives you an opportunity to talk and think about:

  • the impact of your caring role on your well-being
  • what support you may need with your caring responsibilities
  • want you want to achieve outside of your caring role

Read more about the carers assessment and how to request one.

Outcome of assessment

If you're eligible we'll arrange for you to have a carers budget, this could be either a one-off payment or as a regular monthly payment and will be calculated by your Adult Social Care worker and put in your carers support plan.
