Council tax discount for people with disabilities
Your Council Tax bill may be reduced so that you pay a band lower than your property is in. For example, if your property is in band E you will pay the charge for a property in band D.
If your property is already in band A, the lowest band, your bill is reduced by one ninth of the band D charge for your area.
Who can apply
To qualify for a disabled band reduction, there must be:
- At least 1 disabled person permanently resident at the property
And at least one of the below:
- A special room used specifically to meet the needs of the disabled person
- A second bathroom or kitchen used specifically to meet the needs of the disabled person
- Enough space so that a wheelchair can be and is used in your home every day
Please note that the following adaptions, or uses alone, do not qualify for a disabled band reduction:
- Stair lifts
- Additional rails inside or outside the property
- Using a zimmer frame indoors
- Possession of a disabled parking permit
