Single person discount
How much discount I can get
You can reduce your bill by 25 percent if you're the only person aged over 18 living in your main home.
You won't be be able to get a discount if someone has left your home for a short period of time, or will return in the future.
Apply for a single person discount
You need to let us know immediately if you're no longer the only person over 18 living in the home, for example if your son or daughter turns eighteen or another adult moves in.
What we mean by sole or main home
When establishing whether a property is your sole or main residence we consider the following:
- The number of addresses at which the you live at various times and the amount of time spent at each one
- Where you keep most of your possessions
- Whether you own the furniture
- The address at which you're registered for voting and medical purposes
- The sole or main residence of your family
Holidays and travelling
Holidays, even long ones, don't change your sole or main residence. If you're intending to return to the address then that means you're not able to get the discount while you're away.
If your partner works away from home
You're not able to get the discount even if your partner works and lives away from the home for the majority of the time.
