Flood investigations
We are a Lead Local Flood Authority. This means that under Section 19 of the the Flood and Water Management Act (2010) we investigate and publish reports on major flood incidents in the Borough.
We use the Flood Investigation Policy (PDF document) to decide when to carry out a formal investigation of a flooding incident.
Why we investigate flooding incidents
We investigate flooding incidents to determine:
- The most likely causes.
- Which risk management authorities, for example water, sewerage companies, and highways authorities, have responsibilities to help manage flood risk.
- Whether these risk management authorities have exercised, or are proposing to exercise, their risk management functions in response to the flood incident.
Published reports
Once we've finished the report we will publish the results and notify the relevant risk management authorities.
