Types of short breaks
There are 3 types of short breaks services available for children and young people with disabilities:
- Universal services - these are for all children and young people
- Targeted services - these are only for children and young people with disabilities
- Specialist services - these are for children and young people with disabilities who need the most support because they have a complex disability
Short break activities could be:
- daytime care for children with disabilities in their homes or elsewhere
- overnight care for children with disabilities in their homes or elsewhere
- educational or leisure activities for children with disabilities outside their homes
- services to help parents or carers in the evenings, at weekends and during the school holidays
