Short breaks explained
Short breaks are activities for disabled children, young people and their families. Short breaks are sometimes called respite care.
They give children and young people the chance to:
- spend time away from their parents and carers to build independence
- relax and have fun with their friends
- take part in activities
- learn new skills
This gives parents and carers a chance to:
- rest from caring duties and unwind
- spend time with their other children
- do something they enjoy
Short break activities can be during the day, evening, weekend and school holidays.
