Health services for children aged 5 and over

Most local healthcare services, GPs, dentists, and opticians, can help your child or young person with special educational needs and disabilities through everyday appointments. These are known as universal services and are available to all children and young people.

Making reasonable adjustments

Ask if you need any reasonable adjustments for your child or young person, such as:

  • using pictures, large print or simpler words to say what's happening
  • booking longer appointments
  • putting an appointment at a quieter time of the day, if it hard to be in a busy waiting room

If you feel your child or young person needs a more specialised service because of their disability or medical condition, ask your GP, dentist or other healthcare professional about how you can get a referral and if it is right for you.

You can help shape local health services by sharing feedback with Healthwatch Wokingham Borough.
