SEND strategies

Find out about all the strategies and plans that tell us how to support children and young people with SEND.

Our SEND strategy

We want to make Wokingham Borough a great place for children and young people with additional needs and disabilities (SEND) to grow up in. Our SEND strategy sets out how we will achieve this.

Wokingham SEND Assurance Board

The Wokingham SEND Assurance Board meets monthly to look at a range of information across the Wokingham Borough SEND system.

This helps us to see:

  • how well Wokingham Borough children and young people with additional needs and disabilities are being supported to achieve their goals
  • what work is needed to make sure they have better experiences and outcomes

The board includes members from:

  • Wokingham Borough Council
  • local education settings
  • health services
  • voluntary and community sectors

We will work together to make sure Wokingham Borough children and young people with additional needs and disabilities are supported to achieve their goals.

To find out more about the board’s responsibilities, read the Wokingham SEND Assurance Board Terms of Reference.

SEND Inspections and written statement of action

Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) work together to inspect education, health and care services for children with SEND in a local area, to make sure they are effective. This is called an area SEND inspection.

March 2019 inspection

In March 2019, Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) carried out an area SEND inspection of Wokingham Borough.

Our written statement of action represents our action plan in response to their findings.

May 2021 inspection

In May 2021, Ofsted and the CQC revisited the local area.

Wokingham SEND co-production charter

Co-production means working with parents, carers, children, young people, and professionals to create better services and outcomes for everyone.

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) co-production charter describes how we will improve the support and services we provide.

Our principles

We will make sure:

  • everyone is welcome and treated with care and respect
  • everyone’s opinion is not only listened to but is equally valued and included
  • everyone communicates respectfully and in a timely fashion
  • everyone works together to achieve the best outcome
  • there is trust and transparency

Working together through co-production

In the Wokingham Borough, partners and stakeholders work together to help shape the services we provide to children and young people with SEND and their families.

Our partners and stakeholders who have signed up to the co-production charter include:

  • SEND Voices Wokingham
  • Berkshire West Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) (now known as Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board)
  • Royal Berkshire Foundation Trust
  • Berkshire Health Foundation Trust (BHFT)

Read the Wokingham local area SEND co-production charter. Further guidance and quality indicators is also available.
