Physical abuse

Leave this page if you're not safe

Physical abuse is any kind of intentional violence repeatedly done to someone without their consent. The person hurting you could be a friend, family member, or relationship partner. Examples of violent acts that count as abuse include:

  • Striking someone (e.g. slapping, punching, or kicking them)
  • Burning someone
  • Hair-pulling
  • Strangling someone
  • Restraining someone against their will, including locking a victim in a room or tying them up
  • Using a weapon such as a knife or gun against a victim
  • Throwing objects at or near a victim to scare them
  • Threats of violence

If you've been a victim of these behaviours, help is out there. Below are links to a number of websites that you can go to for information, support, and resources.
