Support for carers aged 18 and under
Wokingham Young Carers project
The Wokingham Young Carers - Berkshire Youth service provides support for young carers in the Wokingham borough in collaboration with the Wokingham Carers Partnership.
The service aims to better identify and provide support for young carers to develop emotionally and physically, as well as being able to take full advantage of opportunities for educational achievement and life success.
Our Approach
When assessing how to help a young carer, it's important to think about what the whole family needs and how those needs affect each other. We also recognise the importance of different cultural beliefs and needs related to disability, illness, and caregiving, all while making sure the young person has the right to a safe and happy childhood.
What We Provide:
- Weekly respite sessions for 8 – 18-year-olds, giving you opportunities to take a break from caring responsibilities
- Holiday activities for 8 – 18-year-olds
- Family support so that your caring responsibilities can be reduced
- A listening ear
- Help to understand things and help speak on your behalf if you need us to

- Help finding support through local services
The service will be expanding to offer:
- 16 – 19-year-old transitional group (becoming an adult carer)
