Paying for your own care
There are different reasons why someone may choose to arrange their own social care services.
What is a self-funder?
If you are responsible for paying the full cost of your care, you are considered a ‘self-funder.’ This applies if you:
- have chosen not to seek support from adult social care.
- have been assessed but do not currently qualify for social care services.
- are eligible for support, but your savings exceed £23,250.
- move into a care home and the value of your property is taken into account.
Deferred Payment Agreements
If the value of your home means you must pay for your own residential care, you can ask for a deferred payment agreement. This allows you to delay payment until your property is sold or after you pass away.
