Mayor's Honour Awards open to nominations
Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr Beth Rowland has launched the Mayor’s Honour Awards to recognise people who make an outstanding contribution to their community. The applications for nominations are now open.
The Mayor’s Honour Awards is open to adults, children, young people and community groups who work, live, study or provide services in Wokingham Borough. Each winning individual receives a lapel badge and certificate and group recipients will receive a shield and certificate at a thank you event next year.
Borough Mayor Cllr Beth Rowland and Deputy Mayor Cllr Adrian Mather will select worthy winners from those nominated by members of the public and announce them at full council meetings, which are usually held five times a year.
Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr Beth Rowland said: “If you know someone or an organisation who makes a real difference to our community, nominate them today. We want to recognise and thank these exceptional people who make Wokingham Borough a great place to live, learn, work and grow. I am looking forward to reading the nominations and meeting and congratulating the winners at my thank you event next year.”
Examples of nominated people can include fosterers, volunteers, carers, teachers and employees. For children and young people, the Mayor would like to hear about individuals who have overcome a difficult situation or have outstanding achievements such as in sports or arts.
Nomination process
The deadlines for nominating an individual or organisation are 1 September, 1 November and 1 January.
Nominations should be no longer than 100 words and should set out why the nominee should be considered for the award. The nominee's full name, contact details, such as their email address and telephone number, should also be included in the entry.
To nominate an individual or group, email the Mayor’s office at mayoralsupport@wokingham.gov.uk.
Selection process
Both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor will review nominations on a regular basis. Once their decision has been made, all recipients will be informed by email or letter.
The certificates will be awarded at the Mayor’s Voluntary Sector Thank You event in spring 2024. The council will announce more details on this event, in due course.
