Arranging a longer-term break

If the person you care for needs a high level of support, including overnight care, and you would like to take a break or go on holiday, the following options can provide the necessary level of care:

  • Residential care homes: Provide short-term care, assisting with daily tasks such as washing, bathing, dressing, and meal times in a 24-hour care environment.
  • Nursing homes: Offer the same services as residential care homes, with the addition of trained nurses to meet specific medical care needs.
  • Dementia-registered care homes: Specialise in caring for individuals with dementia, offering tailored support in a secure environment.
  • Live-in carer: A home care agency can arrange for a carer to provide 24-hour care in the person's home. The carer will need a separate bedroom within the property.
  • Short break centres: Designed for adults with disabilities, these centres provide temporary care with trained staff, engaging activities, and outings.
