Household waste

Most households have a fortnightly household waste collection from black bins. Find out when your bins and waste will be collected

A few households are on a weekly blue bin bag collection.

Households on fortnightly collections

Household waste is emptied from your black-wheeled rubbish bin every fortnight. This helps reduce our environmental impact and make essential savingsFind out when your bins and waste will be collected.

Your black-wheeled rubbish bin holds 180 litres, about two full blue bags’ worth of rubbish. You may need to recycle more or reduce your waste as we’ll only take one full bin per collection.  Read more about what goes in your household waste.

Please be aware that blue bags cannot be put out for collection next to your new bin, but can be used within your new bin, if you have some left over.

Some households may not generate enough waste to fill a 180 litre bin every fortnight. However, smaller bins are not available. We decided to provide 180 litre wheeled bins as they are more stable and less likely to topple. Read more about why we’ve introduced wheeled rubbish bins.
You can agree privately to share the space in your bin with a neighbour, but every household with enough space outside to store a wheeled bin will be given one and you will remain responsible for the contents of your bin.

Households on a weekly or fortnightly bag collection

If you are on a weekly or fortnightly blue bag collection you will have received an annual allocation of 54 blue bags in February or March 2024. As these need to last you all year, only present one per week if you have a weekly collection. Or if you have blue bags collected fortnightly put out a maximum of two bags.

You will have to purchase additional blue bags if you run out, so maximise their use and increase your recycling.

You will receive your next annual delivery in February or March 2025.
