Request for traffic signals switch out

How to request traffic lights to be switched off to enable work

You can request traffic signals be switched out (the process of turning off a set of lights, bagging them and displaying a sign to indicate that they are not in use) while work is carried out on the road.

Fees

The cost for requesting a switch out is £632.70.

Payment will be requested once the application has been assessed and approved.

Payment is made via our online weblink or an invoice can be issued on request.

Please allow a minimum of 2 working days between applying for a switch out and the proposed start date of your works. This excludes emergency or immediate urgent works.

Your application will be delayed and possibly rejected if you do not pay the appropriate amount of the fee and submit all the required information needed to assess your application.

What happens next?

Once your application has been accepted a traffic signals engineer will attend both the switch off and switch on.

Should there be any delay at either stage of the switch out, you must phone us with a minimum of 2 hours' notice to rearrange the time. Failure to do this could incur further charges or result in the switch out being aborted. Contact details will be provided when your application is approved.

If the site is unoccupied for the switch off, the engineer will wait for 15 minutes and then call the site contact. If the call is unanswered a voicemail will be left, if possible. They will wait a further 15 minutes before making a final phone call to the site contact.

If no communication has been made after 30 minutes the engineer will leave the site, which could incur a charge for an aborted visit.
