We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that have unfolded across the country in recent days. This is a moment of profound grief for all of us, and we recognise the concern and sorrow that many of you are feeling.

In these challenging times, it is heartening to see that voices advocating for peace and unity are prevailing. The widespread rejection of racism in all its forms is a testament to the strength and resilience of our communities.

We want to reassure you that we are working closely with our partners at Thames Valley Police to ensure the safety and security of all our residents.

While there is currently no specific intelligence indicating protests planned in our borough, please be assured that the police force is fully prepared to respond swiftly if necessary.

Wokingham Borough Council leader, Cllr Stephen Conway, said: “The tragic loss of these three young girls in Southport has deeply affected us all, and our thoughts are with their families and loved ones during this devastating time.

“The violence and disorder that have erupted in response to this tragedy have understandably raised concerns about the safety and well-being of our own towns and villages. I want to reaffirm that Wokingham Borough is a place where compassion, respect, and unity are core values.

“Let us come together to support those in our communities who may feel vulnerable or concerned, and show them that we stand with them. We will not tolerate racism or discrimination in any form within our borough.”

If you see or hear anything suspicious, please contact Thames Valley Police by making a report online, or by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.
