A level students receive above average marks

Students in the borough have continued to achieve excellent A level results, above the national average.

The results are in and Wokingham Borough Council can confirm early data shows that students from schools in the borough have achieved among the highest A level results in the country, with over 78 per cent achieving grade A* to C compared to a national average of 76 per cent.

Also receiving results today are T Level students, an alternative to A levels, apprenticeships and other post-GCSE courses focusing on vocational skills where around 80 per cent of time is spent in the classroom and the rest spent in a workplace. BTEC students have also been collecting their results in the days and weeks leading up to A level results day.

Great results across the board

Nearly 1,000 students sat A Levels in the borough, taking 2,779 A Levels in total and a fantastic 782 top marks of A* and A were awarded, 28.1 per cent overall compared to a national average of 27.6 per cent.

Overall, the majority of grades were a pass with 96.2 per cent achieving a grade A* to E, slightly lower than the national average of 97.1 per cent, of which 55.3 per cent of which were grade A* to B compared to 53.6 per cent nationally.

Cllr Prue Bray, executive member for children’s services, said: “Congratulations are in order to those receiving their results today. You have worked hard to achieve them and now starts the next phase of your life.

“Thank you must also be said to parents, carers, friends and wider family networks who have supported these young people – both academically and managing stress levels and wellbeing.

“And finally to our borough schools, who consistently provide the level of education and care that mean our young people achieve above national averages and are set up for bright futures.

“I very much hope you got the grades you were hoping for, but if not don’t despair there are many different options out there. You can find information on support and next steps on the children, families and young people section on our website including looking after your wellbeing and options for post year 11.

“Whatever your next steps , I wish you all the luck for your future.”
