I would like to request information under the Freedom of Information Act regarding the funding allocated to your Trading Standards body for addressing the upcoming ban on disposable vaping products, which is set to take effect in June.
As this new regulation will have significant implications for both retailers and consumers, it’s important to understand the financial resources being put towards its enforcement. I’d appreciate it if you could provide the following information:
1. The total amount of funding allocated to your Trading Standards body for the enforcement of the disposable vaping product ban from June onwards (or for the current financial year, if more appropriate).
No funding was provided during 24-25 as the ban does not come into force until 1/6/25.
In terms of 25-26, our understanding is that the £10 million for "Trading Standards" - (£5 million of which is being allocated via regional groups) was to encompass work on the Single Use Vape Ban as well as other measures under the Tobacco and Vaping Bill. However this has not been officially confirmed by DHSC/Defra and we are not aware of any specific breakdowns of that funding.
To date no funding has been allocated to Wokingham Borough Council for this work.
2. A breakdown of how this funding will be used.
We are unable to provide a breakdown until the funding is received.
