1. I wish to receive details of training your Early Help workers have received around the following over the past 5 years:
a) Domestic abuse.
We have a large Domestic abuse programme supported by our Domestic Abuse Coordinator, in consultation with our Adult and Children’s Services Learning and Development Leads. This training is available to all Children’s Social Care staff and our partners. Examples of sessions include:
• Impact of Imprisonment on Families Affected by Domestic Abuse • Domestic Abuse Awareness
• DA Ambassadors Training
• DASH training & Reflective refresher sessions
• Digital Stalking as it affects Victim-Survivors of Domestic Abuse
• Building Critical Self-Awareness of Where ‘Victim Blaming’ Comes From, Why it is Harmful and What You Can Do About It
• Domestic Abuse Working with Perpetrators
• How Domestic Abuse Impacts & Effects Children and Young people
• Domestic Abuse – Post Separation Abuse
• Domestic abuse as it affects those with learning disabilities
• Modern Slavery Awareness
• Adopting a Trauma informed approach to supporting those affected by DA
• Exploring the links between domestic abuse, substance misuse and mental wellbeing
• an introduction to intersectionality and cultural competency
• Positions of trust breaches and boundaries and reporting
• Understanding the Domestic Violence disclosure scheme (claire’s law)
• Supporting clients who have involvement with the family court relating to child arrangements orders where there are allegations or findings of domestic abuse
• Understanding the additional challenges and barriers faced by male victims and survivors of DA.
• Domestic Abuse and Money Matters: Exploring the links between the escalating cost of living / financial pressures on relationships and mental health
b) Coercion and manipulation.
The subjects of coercion and manipulation are covered throughout a variety of training, including our safeguarding and practice model training , see examples below:
• Emerging forms of coercive control
• Understanding and responding to complex safeguarding: Issues and Dilemmas Webinar series
• Contextual safeguarding and inequalities: from parks and peer groups to poverty and patriarchy
• Singing From the Same Hymn-sheet: Creating Multi-agency Partnerships Within Contextual Safeguarding
• Universal Safeguarding Children level 2
c) Narcissism.
d) Dealing with military families (as a whole and in particular the effect of deployment to theatre on the military personnel and the fact the military employee receives specific training around interrogation).
We haven’t delivered training specifically around the subjects of narcissism or military families and the impact of deployment and the impact of deployment or the specific training they receive, however, how practitioners work with, identify, and manage challenging or manipulative behaviours is covered within our wider training programme.
