I am part of a research team working on a project to document school closures in the UK before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
1. I am writing to you in the hope that you have a file you might be able to send me that tabulates the dates that schools in your area closed over the period from the 2019/2020 school year through the current school year (2022/2023). For our purposes, it would be great if those data also include information on school closures that occurred for other reasons (e.g. industrial actions or weather related closures).
See attached file.
Please be aware there are likely more school closures since 2018 than this. We haven’t included when schools, classes or bubbles were closed due to Covid, inset days, or where industrial action took place. In majority of cases we don’t have information on record about the day the school re-opened, but it is reasonable to assume in most of the cases the school opened on the very next working day, if they did not communicate otherwise to us. Something else to note, despite “closing” from 2021 onwards, most of the schools when closing mentioned they would be providing virtual learning.
