1. How many miles of road were worked on in your local authority area in the last three years?
2. How many miles of road were closed in the last three years in your local authority?
3. How many miles of road will be worked on in your local authority over the next 12 months?
4. How many miles of road will be closed in the next 12 months?
The Council are unable to report on these questions as we don’t routinely collate this information. The information that is gathered by those applying to work on the public is to a detailed level - down to the 0.1 metre in some cases. We would have to manually calculate the figures by reviewing every reinstatement record over the years requested (many thousand) and our internal record and this would exceed the 18 hour limit under FOI (Section 12 exemption). To give you some context, the Streetworks team received 4670 permanent registration of reinstatement at a variety of different lengths and widths in the 2021/2022 financial year.
I am afraid that it is simply not possible to inform you how many miles of road will be worked on or closed in the next 12 months as Wokingham Borough Council and other third party work promoters, such as utility companies and developers for example, work both in a planned and reactive manner. A majority of works are simply not planned at this time.
We are unable to calculate how long the work would take to complete, as we would not know the size of this project until working through the held information.
5. How much money has been invested in road improvements in the last three years? Please break down by years if possible.
The Smart Motorways (SM) Programme for the requested years is;
a) 2019/20: £3,338,300
b) 2020/21: £4,515,971
c) 2021/22: £4,783,648
