The National Highways definition of the Local Road Network is that portion of the Road Network for which a Local Government is responsible, and is eligible for funding from the State Government to operate and maintain. With this in mind, for the last full year for which figures are available, please would you disclose:
1. The total number of potholes reported to your council across your Local Road Network.
For the period January to December 2023; 2548 potholes were reported to Wokingham Borough Highways.
2. The total amount of money spent compensating drivers for successful claims for vehicle damage from potholes in your Local Road Network.
The council records claims data by calendar year and 2023 is the last full year for which data is available. In respect of claims made in 2023 that were referred to the council’s Insurance Team and/or Public Liability insurers, where it was alleged that vehicle damage had been caused by ‘potholes’, a total of £12,604.08 has been paid in compensation.
3. The total value of funding allocated by your council for road maintenance, relating directly to pothole reports and repairs across your Local Road Network.
Details of funding allocated for road maintenance are available on the Wokingham Borough website in the 2023-24 Medium Term Financial Plan. See attached file.
