I am writing to request information regarding enclosed beds (sometimes referred to as safe sleeping spaces, or known under the brand names: CloudCuddle, Urzone, Creative Care Ltd, Safety Sleeper, Safespaces etc) within your council's jurisdiction.

1.How many enclosed beds have been provided to residents over the past five years?
Wokingham Borough Council has provided 12 enclosed beds over the past five years.

2.What is the annual expenditure on enclosed beds for the past five years?
2020: £35,018.25
2021: £23,080
2022: £10,226
2023: £23,615
2024: £2,736

3.What is the average cost per bed?
Average cost is £7,889.58

4. What brand(s) of enclosed bed(s) do you supply? Do you have any data on the demographics of those receiving enclosed beds?
Centrobed, Thera posture, Safetybed .i.e. Urzone, safe space.

5. What criteria are used to assess whether an individual requires an enclosed bed?
Safety risk assessment, limited awareness, moving & handling, safe transfer and risks associated with climbing over the standard-size bed rail.

6. Is there are a waiting list for an enclosed bed? If so, how long is the average waiting period?
We maintain a general waiting list for OT assessments but do not have a specific waiting list for bed assessments. Assessments are prioritised according to safety and need on receipt.

7. What percentage of the council's disability or social care budget is allocated to enclosed beds?
The Children with Disability Service’s budget is not allocated to specific equipment groups and there is no budget specific to enclosed beds

8. Have there been any recorded incidents involving enclosed beds (e.g., accidents, injuries, misuse)?
We have not had any incidents or injuries reported.

9. Are risk assessments conducted when assessing an individual for an enclosed bed? If so, what factors are considered?
Yes – MHRA bed rail risk assessment are completed for all beds.

10. How does the council review the effectiveness and continued need for enclosed beds?
Children receiving specialist equipment remain open to the OT service for periodic review to ensure that growth and changing needs mean that the bed remains effective.

11. Are there specific national or local guidelines the council follows regarding enclosed beds? For example, guidance from NHS England, NICE, or safeguarding frameworks.
