1. Please provide me with an authoritative statement on the standards and dimensions which you use to determine the acceptability of a dropped kerb used for cyclists to access a shared pavement cycleway from the road.
I have been given 2 conflicting statements by the Highways department in response to reports of dropped kerbs which I consider unsafe.
Please find attached the standard details that our contractors are currently using for the construction of Wokingham Borough Council schemes. Our designers tend to use a bullnose kerb with 0-6mm upstand. Please bear in mind that these standards are subject to change aligning with the latest versions of government guidance in these matters (e.g. Cycle Infrastructure Design Guidance, Inclusive Transport Strategy, Guidance on the use of Tactile Paving Surfaces).
