According to the Department of Transport definition “Shared Use Routes" are designed to accommodate the movement of pedestrians and cyclists. They can be created from new, or by converting existing footways or footpaths. Shared Use Routes may be segregated or unsegregated." These will include footways, footpaths, towpaths or any other public right of way in the area. Please include all of the above when counting.

The definition of cycle route is taken here to be “A route that cyclists are advised to use to reach certain destinations. The term covers on-carriageway cycle lanes, off carriageway cycle tracks, and any other place where cyclists have the legal right to ride.”

1. Where possible, the amount of miles of dedicated cycle routes in existence in your local authority area on 28/10/2024.
There are no dedicated cycle routes as the roads are for everyone to use which includes cyclists and other road vehicles, furthermore we have PRoW network with allows cyclists on some routes. We do have an approved LCWIP (https://www.myjourneywokingham.com/cycling/local-cycling-and-walking-infrastructure-plan-lcwip/) and whilst this will be a final network of high quality cycle routes, there are upgrades required to bring the network up to LTN 1/20 standard. Our GIS mapping shows many of our on carriageway and off-carriageway facilities, though we are aware that some of our more recent schemes have yet to be added; however this network totals 333km and therefore we estimate the total to be around 350km.

2. Where possible, the amount of miles of cycle routes established in the past 6 years in your local authority area with a breakdown for each calendar year. This time period should include (01/01/2018-01/01/2023) and where possible (01/01/2024-28/10/2024).
As above, routes for cyclists are generally established when roads are created. However, in addition, we have also upgraded facilities to improve conditions for cycling along various sections of route or along entire routes in some cases, these lengths are provided below; (note these are shown by financial year (April to March) as this is how our schemes are funded and delivered). This includes some major new roads which have included a shared path alongside the road - the spend provided below is a proportion of the total cost for delivery of these roads but this has only been very roughly estimated. For 2024/25, the year is still in progress and so figures will increase until April 2025. For some years spend may appear high but delivery low because the scheme is not considered open until the full scheme is completed even if much of it was constructed the previous year.

2018/19 (1.75km): £200,000.00
2019/20 (1.43km): £593,976.60
2020/21 (0.44km): £782,070.29
2021/22 (4.36km): £2,080,563.00
2022/23 (6.36km): £1,393,948.00
2023/24 (1.56km): £80,000.10
2024/25 (0.58km): £115,000.00

3. Where possible, the amount of money spent on cycling infrastructure in the past 6 years in your local authority area with a breakdown for each calendar year. This time period should include (01/01/2018-01/01/2023) and where possible (01/01/2024-28/10/2024).
See above.

4. Where possible, the amount of money spent on cycle and scooter share schemes in the past 6 years in your local authority area with a breakdown for each calendar year. This time period should include (01/01/2018-01/01/2023) and where possible (01/01/2024-28/10/2024).
We do not have any cycle or scooter share schemes. We do have a cargo bike trial scheme which enables people to borrow an e-cargo bike for their business, this started in 2023 at a cost of approximately £25,000.
