I am writing to request information regarding the recent safety audit conducted at the new junction at California Crossroads, Wokingham.
1. I would like to request:
a) The full findings and results of the safety audit conducted on the new junction.
b) Any recommendations or actions proposed as a result of this audit.
I am particularly interested in any discussion about the suitability of the use of the 2007 "Manual for Streets" as a guideline for the design of this junction that does not comply with the Highway Code. That document is intended for "lightly trafficked residential areas". California crossroads is not residential, and is certainly not lightly trafficked, exceeding the 100 vehicles per hour metric by at least 10-15 times.
I understand that the safety audit has been completed, but the results have not yet been disclosed publicly. As a resident concerned with the safety and accessibility of this area, I would be grateful if this information could be made available.
The Council are applying Section 22 exemption: Future Publication to this request.
The current Road Safety Audit has been completed and comments received. We have completed a review and are drafting our responses. Once these have been completed and the review finalised we will send it through our approvals process which can then allow the document to be made public. The Council are aiming to have this completed and published early into the New Year. Due to this being so close to completion and publication it would not be in the public interest to publish incomplete at this time and wait until the work has been completed and publish the completed report.
