With regard to maintenance and resurfacing of the A4 trunk road in Wokingham, could you please confirm:
1. The length of the A4 trunk road which lies within Wokingham Borough Council's boundaries;
Although the A4 is not a trunk road, it is regarded by the Department for Transport (DfT) as part of the major road network (see https://maps.dft.gov.uk/major-road-network/index.html ). The length of the A4 within the boundaries of Wokingham Borough is 15.1 km (9.4 miles). The length includes both carriageways on any dual-carriageway sections.
2. The proportion of all traffic in Wokingham unitary authority which uses the A4 road;
Wokingham Borough does not routinely record traffic volumes on all roads in the Borough to be able to determine total traffic levels. It is not therefore possible to calculate what proportion uses the A4 within the Borough. 3. The names of any additional authority or entity which shares with WBC the responsibility for repairing and resurfacing the A4 within WBC's boundaries and the net percentage cost of all such works which is met by WBC;
No highway authority other than Wokingham Borough has responsibility for the A4 within Wokingham’s boundaries.
4. The date of the last full survey by WBC of the condition of the A4 and its footpaths;
Surveys of structural condition are carried out annually. The A4 carriageway was surveyed for overall structural condition on 21 September 2021. The A4 footway was surveyed for overall structural condition during June 2021.
5. The total amount of roads funding received by WBC over the past three years from all sources and the total amount of money spent or committed to be spent on roads over the same period;

6. The total amount of money spent or committed to be spent by WBC over the past three years specifically on repairing and resurfacing the A4 and cleaning/clearing the A4 footpaths;
Wokingham Borough has spent £189,587 in the three financial years 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 on planned resurfacing work on the A4. Monthly summaries of repairs carried out to the A4 as well as other roads are available as downloadable PDF documents on the Wokingham Borough website at:

With respect to spending on clearing and cleaning footways associated with the A4, we do not hold separate records for each road.
7. The quantum of exceptional damage caused to the A4 over the past three years by compulsory and voluntary diversions onto the A4 from the M4 smart roadworks;
Wokingham Borough does not have a record of diversions onto the A4 specifically due to M4 smart roadworks.
8. The amount of additional roads funding received by or allocated to WBC to pay for exceptional repairs and resurfacing to the A4 caused by the M4 smart roadworks diversions.
Wokingham Borough has not received additional funding for repairs and resurfacing to the A4 caused by M4 smart roadworks diversions.
