Payment/Reimbursement of Social Work England registration fee for 2024/25
See notes
Social workers in England are required to renew their professional registration with Social Work England each year between 1 September and 30 November. They pay an annual registration fee of £90. We want to establish which employers have either paid their social worker employees’ £90 fee, or reimbursed their social worker employees for the fee, for the 2024/5 registration period. Please supply the following information:
1. How many social workers did you employ as of February 2025 payroll? Please give your response as a headcount number (i.e. not as FTE)
• 145 Qualified Social Workers with SWE registration in posts with containing ‘Social worker’ in the job title in Adult Social Care & Health and Children's Services.
• 225 Qualified Social Workers with SWE registration regardless of current post in Adult Social Care & Health and Children's Services.
2. Of these employees, how many have you paid or reimbursed their Social Work England registration fee of £90 for the 2024/25 registration period? Please give your response as a headcount number (i.e. not as FTE)
Please note that registration payments can be made as one off of £90 in full or in two parts of £45. Of the 225 Qualified Social Workers with SWE registration, there have been expenses claimed for £90 by 135 of them, and expenses claimed for £45 by 10 of them.
3. A copy of any council policy/procedural note on the payment/reimbursement of the Social Work England registration fee.
The below is taken from the WBC Learning & Development Policy:
Professional fees Professional fees and subscriptions will only be paid if:
• there is a legal requirement for the membership,
• if it is required to validate WBC insurance provisions,
• If there is a measurable and justifiable benefit to WBC as a result, i.e. employees can access free professional training, professional services and/or tools that are applicable to the employee’s role.
Professional fees should be deducted from a Service Manager’s training budget and payment is at the Service Manager’s discretion. Professional fees may be included in salary packages for some employees.
