1. We understand that litter picking is handled under your street cleansing contract. What are the obligations of the contractor in terms of litter picking frequency and locations?
Our contractor is required to cleanse, which includes removal of litter, when carrying out their activities.
Highway carriageways are swept every 7 weeks outside of town centres.
We have barrow operatives who carry out litter picking within our town centres of Wokingham and Woodley, throughout the week.
When litter bins are emptied, either once or twice weekly, the surrounds of these are litter picked.
The surrounding of council managed bring banks (bottle banks) are cleared of litter weekly.
Out of town shopping areas are cleared of litter weekly.
The A329M is cleared of litter 4 times a year.
The A33 is cleared of litter 2 times a year.
When grass cutting takes place, our grounds maintenance contractor is required to clear litter.
Other areas within the borough receive litter picking on a reactive basis.
