1. How many unfixed potholes are there currently recorded under the council authority (as of January 13, 2025)?
Unfortunately, it is not possible retrospectively to determine the number of unrepaired potholes at a past date.
The number of unrepaired potholes in Wokingham Borough as at 22 Jan 2025 16:59 was 9, of which 8 were within the stated response time for repair.
2. How much has the council spent on pothole repairs in the last 3 years - broken down by year (from January 1st - to December 31st 2022, 2023 and 2024) - Up to and including any data held for January 2025.
The following amounts were spent in Wokingham Borough on the repair of potholes in the respective calendar years:
January 1st - to December 31st 2022 £163,875.32
January 1st - to December 31st 2023 £283,447.78
January 1st - to December 31st 2024 £274,215.47
January 1st to 22nd 2025 (estimated) £9218.60
Please note that final measures are not available for all works carried out in January 2025, so the amount spent is an estimate.
3. How many legal claims have been lodged against the council relating to damage caused by potholes in the last three years? Broken down by years as above.
a) Of those, how many were settled with compensation?
b) Of those, how many were refused?
In the 2022 calendar year a total of 32 claims for damage to vehicles/bicycles allegedly caused by potholes were made against the council. 13 of these claims have been paid with compensation totalling £5,524.12 and 18 of these claims have been repudiated.
In the 2023 calendar year a total of 144 claims for damage to vehicles/bicycles allegedly caused by potholes were made against the council. 50 of these claims have been paid with compensation totalling £13,552.56 and 93 of these claims have been repudiated.
In the 2024 calendar year a total of 83 claims for damage to vehicles/bicycles allegedly caused by potholes were made against the council. 20 of these claims have been paid with compensation totalling £6,104.72 and 45 of these claims have been repudiated.
