Child Benefit/CH 193 Notification Form
See notes
The CH 193 Notification Form must be sent to the Child Benefit Office by an employee of the Local Authority as soon as it's clear that a child/young person will be Looked After for 8 weeks or more and parents must be informed that the Child Benefit Office has been notified.
CH 193 Notification Form accessible via weblink: https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/shortforms/form/CH193?dept-name=&sub-dept-name=&location=43&origin=http://www.hmrc.gov.uk
1. At your Local Authority, who is expected to undertake this task? I.e. the child's allocated social worker?
The child’s SW that would complete the form.
2. Of the total children in March 2024 who became Looked After, how many CH 193 Notification Forms had been sent? Please provide the figure for the total children in March 2024 who became Looked After and the figure for the CH 193 Notification Forms. Also, please state the number of omissions identified that occurred by way of the form having not been sent vs where a child is placed at home with P so it was not necessary to have completed and sent the form.
Zero. There is government guidance on completing the form, but it is not a statutory requirement as far as our Assessment, Intervention and Support Services manager understands. The attached information for SW’s states that the form should not be returned unless the parent has consented.
