Historic landfills
See notes
I'm writing to make an EIR request. For the following historic landfills:
EAHLD13267 Thames Valley Park Reading, Berkshire
EAHLD13271 Thames Valley Park Reading, Berkshire
EAHLD13263 Thames Valley Park Reading, Berkshire
EAHLD13266 Thames Valley Park Reading, Berkshire
EAHLD13269 Thames Valley Park Reading, Berkshire
EAHLD35722 Deans Farm Redlands Pit, Reading, Caversham, Berkshire
EAHLD32351 The Ford Lands End, Twyford, Berkshire
EAHLD13218 Burghfield Area D Burghfield, Reading, Berkshire
1. Does the council have a record of what is in these historic landfills?
2. When was the last time each of these sites was inspected?
3. What measures if any has the council taken to prevent materials and chemicals from these sites from leaching into the local environment?
4. Have residents been made aware that they live near hazardous landfills?
Based on the information provided, I do not believe we hold information for ;
EAHLD35722 Deans Farm Redlands Pit, Reading, Caversham, Berkshire
EAHLD13218 Burghfield Area D Burghfield, Reading, Berkshire
It is possible that these sites are in neighbouring authority areas – (Info indicates that they may be in Reading Borough Council and /or South Oxfordshire District Council areas. I would therefore advise you to direct your enquiries to the relevant local authority.
If you believe the sites are in Wokingham Borough Council, I’d be grateful if you could provide a scaled plan identifying the boundary for each site in question, in order that I can re-check our records.
With respect to the other sites listed.
EAHLD13267 Thames Valley Park Reading, Berkshire
EAHLD13271 Thames Valley Park Reading, Berkshire
EAHLD13263 Thames Valley Park Reading, Berkshire
EAHLD13266 Thames Valley Park Reading, Berkshire
EAHLD13269 Thames Valley Park Reading, Berkshire
Our records indicate that these sites were filled with Mixed/Special/Hazardous Waste
EAHLD32351 The Ford Lands End, Twyford, Berkshire
Our record indicate that the site was filled with construction/demolition waste (pre 1974)
We hold no records of these sites having been inspected.
We have no records of the council having directly undertaken measures. We have a record, in respect of the collective Thames Valley Park sites, that a large part of PFA (Pulverised Fuel Ash) was removed before development of Thames Valley Park and redeposited within contained areas within the park.
Our contaminated land strategy is available to the public. Individual residents are able to request information via an EIR request, (often during house purchases, or in relation to potential planning applications).
The information is given on the understanding that the Council accepts no liability for the use to which it is put and gives no guarantee as to the state of the land in question. The information given represents the position within the environmental health database at the date of this email and the Council can give no guarantee as to the impact of any future events in relation to the sites in question.
