How to help your children cope with abuse
Talking to your child about what's happening can help them feel less confused, anxious and isolated.
Make sure to:
- Listen to them, without interrupting
- Tell them it's not their fault
- Let them know that abuse and violence are always wrong
- Let them know that support is always available - e.g. they can call Childline on 0800 11 11
- Show them how to make a safety plan - visit the Safelives website to download a young person's safety plan
Visit the Women's Aid website for more tips on how to help your children.
