Moving to adult mental health support services
If you are getting support from The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), they can help you prepare for adult life.
Moving on from CAMHS
Around the age of 17, CAMHS will start the process of moving you to adult mental health services. They will look at how you can be supported after you turn 18.
They will help you and your family:
- understand what local services are available
- identify services that will meet your needs
Services could be the:
CAMHS will refer you to the service that will meet your support needs.
If you are referred to CMHT, a care planning meeting will take place to make sure your move to adult services goes well. The meeting will involve you and your family, someone from CAMHS, and someone from CMHT.

Managing your medication
If you need long-term medication after you turn 18 but this doesn't need to be managed by a psychiatrist, then your doctor (GP) will help you with this.
