Your social worker

What your social worker will do

When you're in care, you'll have a social worker assigned to you. Your social worker's job is to be there for you, listen to what you have to say, and help you understand what's going on. They'll also put together a care plan for you, and it's important that you give your input on it.

Your social worker will check in with you regularly, whether it's at your placement, school, or wherever you feel comfortable talking. You'll have review meetings where you chat about how things are going and make plans for your future.

Sometimes your social worker might make decisions you don't agree with, but they should always listen to you and explain why they've made that decision.

What does it mean?

Care Plan

Your care plan is written by your social worker and has information about you, your placements and what your plans might be for the future. It should be updated regularly as things change.

Review Meetings

These meetings are to discuss the arrangements for where you are living and to talk about the plans for the future.

Social Worker

This is someone who looks after your case. You may have been introduced to them before you came into care, or they may be new to you. They will be the ones who have the most contact with you, visit you, and come to your meetings.

Supervising Social Worker

This is a social worker who supports foster carers.
