How we calculate your personal budget
The law tells us how to do this, but each local authority might do it a bit differently. At Wokingham Borough Council, we use a "ready reckoner" approach. First, we add up the amount of care and support you need. Then, we talk with you about how you want your support to be given. After that, we work out the cost to figure out your total personal budget.
Personal budget amount
First, we will give you an estimated budget amount, so that you can start to create your care and support.
As we work with you to develop your care and support plan, we will compare the estimated amount with the actual costs of the services you need. This means that the final amount may be higher or lower than the initial estimate.
Making sure your personal budget is enough
The final amount of your personal budget must be enough to cover all your assessed and eligible needs. It will also consider any reasonable preferences you have.
Your social care worker will explain how we calculated your personal budget and tell you the total amount you get each week and year.
