Food hygiene inspections
We check food businesses
We give a rating (according to the Food Standards Agency) to food businesses to show how well they comply with hygiene standards at the time of an inspection.
The rating is given on a scale
- 5 means the hygiene standards are very good
- 0 means urgent improvement is necessary
Ratings can be found online via the Food.gov.uk website, and on stickers which are displayed by the business.
Following the issue of a rating
A business has a right to:
- Reply and have information published online
- Appeal if the rating is considered wrong or unfair
- Request a new rating by applying for a revisit
Request for inspection
These can be made as Freedom of Information Requests:
