Universal Credit sanctions

To receive Universal Credit payments, you will need to accept an agreement called a ‘claimant commitment’. You can do this in your online account.

You must do everything you agree to in your commitment otherwise your payment could be reduced or stopped. This is called a sanction.

The amount of benefit you lose and for how long will depend on the reason for the sanction.
