1. How many complaints has Wokingham council received from members of the public in the last three years (2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24)?
Please see attached file. The full report is published on our website annually.
2. How many data breaches has Wokingham council suffered in the past three years (2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24) and which departments did they affect?
The Council experiences approximately 100 reported minor breaches each year. These usually tend to be down to human error and are resolved promptly. They will be matters such as post being delivered to the wrong address, wrong attachment to an email but the email deleted with confirmation, emails not being sent BCC, etc and do not 'affect' a department in delivery of services. As these are minor, they do not meet the threshold of reporting to the ICO. We have to declare to our Insurers any data breaches reported to the ICO and we have KPIs and reporting around breaches. In the last 3 years the Council has had to report 1 data breach to the ICO. This related to a breach as part of a shared service that the Council had been part of. A PACE notebook was lost for a short period of time. The notebook was handed in same day by the member of the public who found it to one of the other Berkshire Authorities, and all parties to the shared service was notified the following week. No individuals were affected by this breach and the ICO closed the case and decided to take no further action.
3. How much has Wokingham council paid out in compensation as a result of personal injuries suffered on roads and pavements during the past three years (2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24)?
The council records compensation claims by calendar year rather than by financial year and we have therefore provided answers in respect of calendar years 2021, 2022 and 2023.
For those claims made in 2021 alleging that personal injuries had been suffered on roads and pavements, a total of £7,300 has been paid in compensation.
For those claims made in 2022 alleging that personal injuries had been suffered on roads and pavements, a total of £500 has been paid in compensation.
For those claims made in 2023 alleging that personal injuries had been suffered on roads and pavements, a total of £500 has been paid in compensation.
Some claims are still ‘open’, and may be paid. I have not included any legal fees etc. as the request only asks about compensation.
