Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request the following information regarding the provision of real time audio-visual announcements at bus stops within your council's area:
1. Total Number of Bus Stops: The total number of bus stops in your council area.
The number of bus stops in the borough, there locations and which ones have real time information is detailed in Appendix C of the Council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP). A copy of the Council’s BSIP can be viewed here: https://www.myjourneywokingham.com/bus-travel/enhanced-partnership/
2. Number of Bus Stops fitted with real time audio information systems: The number of bus stops that are equipped with audio information.
No bus stops in the borough are fitted with audio systems.
3. Number of Bus Stops with real time visual information: The number of bus stops that are equipped with visual announcements.
If a bus stop is shown to have retime information in Appendix C of the BSIP this means it has a display screen with visual information.
4. Implementation Details:
a) A brief description of the criteria or policy used to determine which bus stops are equipped with audio and/or visual announcements: The Council has a policy which prioritises bus stops for real time visual information by stop classification. Information on stop classification and RTI prioritisation can also be found in Appendix C of the BSIP. The Council does not have an adopted policy specifically for audio announcements.
b) A brief description of the requirements of audio and/or visual announcements, as defined by the local transport authority: Wokingham Borough Council’s generally requires RTI to be provided on the bus stop flag rather than in the shelter, however, where historically RTI has been in shelters, it may still be provided within the shelter. Reading Buses hold the main RTI contract and Wokingham Borough Council purchase new RTI displays and have a maintenance agreement through the Reading Buses contract.
5. Future Plans: Any future plans or strategies for increasing the coverage of audio and/or visual announcements at bus stops.
This is detailed in the Council’s BSIP.
