Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and Related Applications
See notes
I am writing to request the following information regarding Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) within your jurisdiction:
1. The number of trees currently registered with Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs).
The number of trees currently protected by a TPO cannot be determined. It can only be estimated. This is because of the large areas of woodland TPOs in the borough. The number of trees protected by woodland TPOs will be far greater than the number protected by individual, group or area TPOs. This is because of the seedlings and saplings (not to mention ‘future trees’) protected by woodland TPOs. The number of trees in the borough currently protected by TPOs is estimated at half a million. The Council have a map which shows areas of TPOs on the Councils website that you can view if you want locations. This was published and put on our Planning applications from 2016.
2. The number of applications received from insurance companies to fell trees with TPOs, within the following timescales:
a) 2024 to date
b) Jan 2019 – Dec 2023
c) Jan 2014 - Dec 2018
The Councils planning applications are publicly available on our website so we are applying Section 21 exemption. Those from 2016 and subsequent years are available online, earlier applications are available at the Council’s Offices by arrangement.
3. The number of successful applications from insurance companies to fell trees with TPOs, within the following timescales:
a) 2024 to date
b) Jan 2019 – Dec 2023
c) Jan 2014 - Dec 2018
