Flood Action Groups in your areas
See notes
Under Freedom of Information Act/Environmental Information Regulations, I would like to request the following information:
1. Any meeting minutes where flood action groups or other civil society bodies have contributed to discussions about flooding in the last two years.
Two site meetings have taken place at Highwood School on 4 March and on Tuesday 19 March resulting in significant reductions in flooding issues affecting the school playing fields. No formal minutes were taken.
A series of meetings have been held with St Crispins School Wokingham (autumn 2023-present and ongoing) and assistance rendered in securing a £48,000 grant towards a programme of sustainable drainage improvements to the school.
A parish walk around and meeting was held with representatives from Hurst Parish and the EA on 18 Jan 24. No formal minutes were taken but the information solicited fed into the attached draft S19 report that has yet to be finalised in the light of comments received from a pre-publication consultation (see section 9.2 et seq. and Appendix A of the attached report).
Through several meetings, the Swallowfield Flood Resilience Group provided valuable input in acquiring funding (£47.5K) for the Riseley Natural Flood Management scheme.
Where the Council’s response to flooding exceeds its business as usual procedures – we will often work with multi-agency partners to coordinate our response. For example, during Storm Henk, January 2024. In this incident, this included the voluntary sector, such as Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue. We also engage with Town and Parish Councils to warn and inform of the risks to their communities and advise them of actions they should take – which includes engaging with any flood wardens or volunteers.
2. Any list of 'flood action groups' in your area.

Charvil Village (Charvil Parish Council)
3. The number of FTE staff you have dedicated to flood risk management and their roles.
Five FTE Staff are dedicated to flood risk management excluding the Emergency Planning Manager and his assistant that are not dedicated to Flood Risk Management but whom have significant input. The dedicated staff are as follows:
Manager, Lead Local Flood Authority
Reactive Drainage Engineer x 2 – responding to flooding / drainage enquiries predominantly on the highways network; (1 position we are currently recruiting again)
Principle Drainage and Flood Risk Officer x 2 – primary focus is to respond to statutory consultations in support of planning from a flood risk / drainage perspective.
