I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information:

1. How many times schools in your area have unsuccessfully applied for funding for remedial / construction work over the last ten years;
The council does not maintain a log of requests for capital funding for remedial / construction works made by schools. All remedial / construction capital works schemes (Devolved Formula Capital funded schemes excepted) that are funded by the council are also delivered by the council through contracts with the council, based on council specifications. Priorities are determined by the council, based on condition surveys, reported defects and extensive knowledge of the school estate. Note that Academies, Free Schools and Voluntary Aided Schools are responsible for their own works and these works are funded through national funding arrangements that do not involve the council, so the questioner would need to approach such schools directly. School categories can be found online at “Get Information About Schools”, a DFE service.

2. What amount of funding was requested on each occasion;
See response to Question 1.

3. How many buildings in the school estate in your area are rated as ‘critical and very likely’ in terms of the risk that building collapse or failure could cause death or injury, in each of the last ten years as measured by the Department for Education’s corporate risk register; and
None.

4. How much schools in your area have spent on remedial works in each of the last ten years.
The council has invested circa £6.3 m over this period in school maintenance projects.
