Arborfield Garrison major development
The former Arborfield Garrison and Hogwood Farm sites are being developed into a sustainable new village including:
- Up to 3,500 new homes
- Schools and sports pitches
- A district centre with a food store, shops, community centre and leisure centre
- Restaurants, cafés and other typical district centre uses
- Children’s play parks, including a skate park
- Community gardens and allotments
- Nature parks
- New roads, footpaths, and cycle and bridleways
The development will include an extension to the existing Hogwood Industrial Estate, providing additional employment opportunities.
The northern part, now commonly known as Arborfield Green, has planning permission for 2,000 houses, a district centre with community facilities and a food store, a neighbourhood centre and a village square. A new secondary and a primary school are both now open.
Full permission has been granted for 2 nature parks at Hazebrouck and West Court and the conversion of an existing Ministry of Defence gym to a community centre, while planned highways improvements are now completed.
Bohunt Secondary School Wokingham welcomed more than 100 new pupils in September 2016, as the borough’s first new secondary school in more than half a century, and now has 1,200 pupils.
Farley Hill Primary School moved to purpose-built new premises at Baston Road in 2021. New cycleways and footpaths between Sheerlands Road and Princess Marina Drive are now open and are part of the safe routes to the new school.
Meanwhile, an outline planning application for the southern part of the development at Hogwood Farm was approved in October 2015. A redesigned update was approved in November 2018.
The permission is for up to 1,500 new houses, new industrial floor space, a neighbourhood centre, a primary school, new sports pitches, highways improvements, and open space including a children’s play area.
The Hogwood Farm development, which falls within the parish of Finchampstead, is being marketed as Finchwood Park.
